Title: Dillo Too Access violation when saving a env file.
Post by: AUS_Twisted on September 16, 2004, 09:57:49 AM
I get this error when trying to save my track either as a locked or unlocked env file, everything loads 100% fine in Dillo Too it's just the saving part, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with 512x512 textures, I can bundle the track fine in Armadillo and run it in MCM2 with no probs at all. I wanted to try Dillo Too as I plan on adding semi transeparent objects, but I dont want to lose the texture detail on a few objects as they wont look right.

BTW, this is using version 97 b2.

Yeh, your right, it would be the 512 maps, i think bumping up the texture map size limit is on Lauries list of things to do.
I think the olny way to avoid loosing the quality for now would be to use more maps.

Yup, like Mickey said try reducing the map to 256 - i would be interested to hear how much difference you notice in the final in game object detail, sounds like it people though so that might make it more noticeable. Otherwise use 4 x 256 maps but that's a hassle to re-texture everything.

Larger map sizes is on my todo list but i can't seem to find any time to work on D2 at the moment so it won't be for a while.

Thanks for the reply guys, I only really need 1x512 texture for my whole track for a 2D flat crowd object that sits in the stands as it uses up almost the whole length of the 512 texture which is a really long object aswell, lowering this wouldn't look very good as it also has transeparent edges. I have other things on it also to fill up the bottom of the texture space as I dont plan on wasting any hehe.

It would be really good to see support for 512x512 textures in the future, but if not the program is awesome anyway, I was really impressed with the object shadows Dillo Too generates and how you can have more then one shadow direction then export it as a shadow mask.tga with alittle editing in PSP the shadows come up really good ;)

Thanks Twisted, you could half the length of the strip of people and then only need 256 wide tex? But you probably know this already. :) Sounds like an interesting track people in stadiums and multiple shadows - is it an SX??

Yeah Twisted SX 2004, uses the same stadium as Twisted SX Night but with a new crowd texture and the placed 2D crowd along with other things in the stands ;)

It has 4 light sources setup in the 3D Max scene, Twisted SX Night had 3, I'll be using 4 shadow directions in Dillo Too for some of the object shadows.

The crowd texture has 26 people sitting next to each other accross, overall there is 5304 actuall 2D people in the stands which adds up to 816 polys, I could cut that in half if needed as the flat object is doubled up so the crowd can be seen on the otherside of the object aswell, really only good for screenshots and if you jump onto the stadium with the ramp placed outside the stadium the crowd will be seen from the outside.

I'll post a screenshot of the track when I have the bales placed and better textures.

I deleted the backsides of the crowd object which of course now makes it 408 polys for the whole crowd placed on the stadium.
