Yeah, I know that I ask a lot of questions, but this will probably be my last one before I'll be able to release my adventure freestyle world.
OK, it's 2 questions. Meh.
1. Why do I get an error every time I try to export a track with custom objects in D2? I already read some other topics, and I checked that the textures were the right size. All I wanted to do was add a "ride through" property to my custom plants.
2. Is it possible to add that property to an object without using DilloToo?
it would help to know what the error message says. :) D2 shouldn't have any problems with custom objects..
I don't think there is any other way to add RIde Thoguh to an object.
It was an access violation error (or something like that). I checked the log file, and it happened after the color maps were added.
Some objects have errors , sometimes the errors are on the name and textures names and the names inside the slt file , open it with text to see.
Well, do I open the .prj or the .env file in Dillo Too?
Also, my custom objects don't seem to have errors. They work just fine in MCM2. I had one unexplainable error with my custom car, and I already deleted it.
Dillo2 will open either the prj or the env.? I open the prj file the first time to bring in the track work that I've done in D1.? After saving in D2 as a env file, I then open the env file only so to not loose any updates I've made in Dillo2.? Dillo2 doesn't update the prj file so after the initial opening of the prj in Dillo2, there is no reason to open it again.? Just use the env file after that.
Sorry i've been away for a couple of weeks. Wayne is bang on the money, i think he probably uses D2 a lot more than i do.. :)
Vehicles can be a bit tricky since they need to have the spline added before you pack the track otherwise it causes problems. Also the model needs to built a certain way so that the game can find the wheels and the body of the vehicle. Extreme is our expert in custom vehicles for MCM2 he might be able to get your car started..

OK, then, I'll play around with Dillo Too and see if I can make everything work. Thanks for the help, everyone. *inserts thumbs-up emote here* .
I wish there was a way to increase the frame rate, though. 3 FPS is quite hard to work with. Meh.
Is the track very object heavy? or do you have a lot of trees? or a very old system? Most modern systems should run much higher than 3fps even with a lot of objects, unless D2 has a problem recognising your gfx card and is using the software renderer instead.
You could remove some stuff while you work and then add it back in for the final Packing, eg the trees.

i continue to have this problem in D2 97.4, on objects that work fine if you place them in the regular editor. It freezes right after the color map for me aswell. I'm going to go look for a different version of D2 and give that a try.
You could try asking over at MDX racings forums there is still a strong mcm2 community over there, perhaps if can get me a sample track and object i could take a look at the problem. But it's been a long while since i worked on D2 and i tried to compile it the other day and something is definitely wrong so it might take me a while to get it up again..
Laurie
Normally my frame rates inside D2 run between 20 and 30 FPS and my machine is no powerhouse by a long shot. My current project only runs at 2 FPS, which is tough to use, but it does have 800 objects. You can improve your FPS a little by dialing down your resolution on the OPTIONS tab.
Thanks :) .
It runs at 6 fps now :S . I only have about 150 objects, and they're mostly simple polygons.
I've even solved my previous problem with the exporting error :) . Yay!

well, it does it with any custom object for me: any of the td ones, from mcm factory, from extremes site. Would it be a problem with my system maybe? i never had this problem with my home pc, but my laptop has integrated graphics, and maybe d2 cant handle that? i dont really know. ive just been placing the objects in d2 and exporting the scn, running through apm, and using dillo to pack it, but it would be nice to not have to do all that.
That seems like the long way around and maybe it is necessary, but I place objects in D2 and pack from D2 directly to an .ENV file. Just be sure to answer NO when it asks you if you are ready to release. If you say YES, you will not be able to reopen the ENV file. Saying NO, you can reopen as much as you want to.
off topic:
Wayne you know what sup with mdxracing.com site ?
its off for me since 1 or 2 days ago.
You probably already got the email from MD, but there are some Domain Name issues and he won't be able to get them sorted out until Monday.? Some of these places are not open over the weekend.? So we will just need to sit tight until then.
Hey Crash
can you post the PACK log?
Do you have all the models/textures present on the laptop? I think you should be told if D2 can't find a textures, but one possible issue is that it can't find one of the textures. They should also be in TGA format either 24bit or 32bit otherwise D2 won't be able to convert them and that could be an issue ..
Laurie
yes i have all the textures, i have even checked my filed against the SLT files. it happens with every single object for me.
here is an example pack log i just made:
Packing - C:\mcm2\TrackEditor\ctv2\dis\nat.env

Looks like dillotoo974 doesnot found textures of the objects on your pc , after <Saving user model Textures [3]> dillotoo write the names of the textures , next is the objects . . . . . .
Try dillotoo97.2 maybe works on your pc
http://www.twisteddirt.com/download.php?file=files/mcm2/other/DilloToo972.zip
97.2 gives the same results.
Hey CnB, this is a wild shot but, what is the path to your custom object folder?
c:/mcm2/trackeditor/usermodels
the only thing im skeptical about is that my OS is on the D: drive, but i dont think that would make a difference when D2 was looking for textures.
The only thing you need to worry about concerning the game folder is that the Registry settings of the game are right, there is a value in there called RootPath or something like that that D2 uses to find the game and the files.. If that doesn't match where mcm2 is installed then it will cause problems, but D2 probably wouldn't start..
This talk about OSs makes me wonder if there is some kind of file/folder rights issue in play here for these folders or certain file types and D2 is being denied access to them. This seems unlikely if the objects show up in the editor when you place them because this obviously requires the files to be read too..
Laurie
does D2 have problems with any graphics cards that mcm2 doesn't laurie? i have integrated graphics so i was just wondering.
It shouldn't have a problem with integrated gfx so long as it supports DirectX 8. The only problem could come because D2 doesn't let you choose which adapter to use, it will always use the first one it finds which if you have more than 1 adapter could be the 'wrong' one. But what happens in that case i can't say because i have never been able to test it using the computers that i have.
i have found another problem: D2 will not create tree shadows for my tracks either. it just comes up all black. if i move my files to the home pc that the kids use d2 works fine, so it is something on my end on my laptop. Anyone got any ideas that would cause d2 to have problems with textures and shadowing?
Can you give us a few specs for the laptop, cpu, OS, version of directX and anything you think might be relavent?
You can get all black shadows if you have an object that covers all of the terrain, like a stadium, but i have a feeling you're going to say you don't have a stadium..
It sounds like it could be gfx drivers related..
Just today after read this i found that with my new pc and video card i have that problem also , 7900GS with 94.24 drivers ,
dillotoo 97.4 and 97.2 make shadows on all the terrain but i tryed with DilloToo97b2 and the shadows work , so theres something diferent between 97b2 and 97.4 \ 97.2 .
I tryed this on a track im building that dont have any objects (no water and stadiuns) , tested this with some trees and bales.
i had no objects, just trees.
for laptop it is Win xp sp2, intel centrino(1695 MHZ), Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family(drivers 6.14.10.4410), 512mb ram, directx 9.0
There are a lot of differences between 97.2 and 97.4 since 97.2 i was moving to a new structure so i had to recode a lot of things and that changed and broke a few things, it was part of moving towards supporting MVA and other future games. I don't know why the shadows aren't working, but i'll take another shot at compiling D2 and see what gives..
Crash
I noticed that there are new drivers available for your chipset http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915gm/ ..well they have different version numbers. :)
I think the integrated gfx card doesn't support all of the functions of DX8.
I'm afraid i still don't have anymore ideas why it isn't packing the objects. Which version of XP do you have Home or Pro? I wonder if running D2 in one of the compatability modes would make a difference..
Laurie
I'm sorry for bumping an ancient topic, but I recently got back into MCM2, use DilloToo, and get the exact same error this person gets when exporting with custom objects. I have a laptop, with an Intel integrated graphics card. My MCM2 directory is C:\MCM2 like it should be, my TrackEditor directory is C:\MCM2\TrackEditor, and my User Models folder is correct. Wow. 8 years and this still isn't solved. One of my friends on another MCM2 site has Win 7 64 bit like I do and he uses DilloToo all the time with custom objects with no problem. I PM'ed him about this issue and he has yet to respond. At first I thought this had to do with custom models I myself made, but this happens when I place any custom model in a track in DilloToo, even the ones with 256x256 textures.
I'm afraid it's 8 years because development on D2 stopped pretty much when Unleashed came out. Sorry but i don't see me getting to this anytime soon either. It does look like it is related to specific setups, so it's hard to say whether it's a D2 issue or maybe it can be solved with changes to PC setup.
If you've noticed, the only three people on this forum who've had this problem (including me) all have/had laptops with integrated graphics cards. I installed everything MCM2 and DilloToo on a desktop my friend gave me with a GeForce G6000 or something card and saving with custom objects worked fine. I think the error has something to do with the fact that I'm using a laptop with an integrated card. So my conclusion, don't use DilloToo on these laptops, no matter how old or new they are, since it is an integrated graphics card, there might be something about it that DilloToo doesn't like. I've got Windows 2000 on that machine, Windows 7 64 on my laptop, but I'm upgrading to Windows 8.1 on my desktop. I think DilloToo should work, since BPh uses it with no problem on Win 7 64, which is what's on my laptop and I initially thought was the cause of my problem.
Thanks for the compete feedback, i can at least give it some thought with that in mind and see if there is any reason why integrated gfx should cause an issue. Does your laptop also have gfx card on top of the integrated gfx (igfx)? Tho once D2 has selected a gfx card it should work so long as the drivers support dx8.1 What is your igfx card model?
OMG! THE CREATOR OF DILLOTOO IS STILL HERE AND IS TALKING TO ME!!! I have intel Integrated Graphics. I have a Compaq Presario CQ57 that I bought in 2012.
Lol, like a bad penny i just keep turning up..
Do you have another gfx card in your laptop as well as the the Intel or is it only the integrated chip. Do you know which Intel gfx chip it is, it might be that some of the DX capabilities are not supported?
No, I don't have another graphics card on my laptop. I'm not sure which Intel card it is, either. I also noticed that on DilloToo on my laptop, not all of the objects show up. But on my desktop, they do.
