Title: Animation Help!
Post by: Gamergull on May 02, 2007, 10:22:07 PM
I tried to make animated vehicles in Dillo Too (quite hard to do on my computer, as the program runs at 5 fps), and, after I draw the spline, the car moves around normally. However, when I export it into mcm2, the car just vibrates repetitively in one spot in the game. How can I fix this? (yeah, I'm an Armadillo and Dillo Too n00b. Lol.)

When you re-open the track in D2 does the car still move around the track as it is supposed to? Is the vehicle a stock or a custom vehicle? Did you save the spline to disk first and then add it to the vehicle from there or made the spline on the vehicle and then packed the track in one session?

Sorry it's been a while since i have done any of this so it's going to take me a while to remember what might be going on..

OK, I fixed the problem. I made the vehicles go too fast, so they looped really fast.

New problem: Do the vehicles always orient themselves to the terrain? I wanted to make one travel across a bridge. I think I should get 3D max, but is there a way to do it using Dillo Too or anything else?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions :P . I'm not good at Armadillo or any other program.

That's the nature of vehicles they follow the ground in game as well as real life :) , i think they will also run over objects in game so just put the object in it's path and it should run right over it. The best person to answer this is fixer since he did a lot of work with vehicles in tracks mainly trains which if i remember rightly runs on the tracks and not the ground, and also over a couple of bridges..

I used to use  a program called Milkshape3D which is a simple and cheap modelling program for making small models like you would use in MCM2. There is a MCM2 plugin, available from the downloads section on this site, so you can export the models to use in game. It also has a bunch of other exporter and importers for other program file types, so when you move on to a better modelling program you can still use it to convert your models for MCM2.

OK, I downloaded it, and i'll probably get it registered. What about .vue files, though?

Also, the vehicles still go through the bridges. I must be doing something wrong.

I just took a look at the M3D web site and things have changed since i was there last time, a new version and the mcm2 Exporter isn't listed anymore so i'm not sure it will be compatible with the new version, but you can try. To create VUE files you can use 3D Max v3.1 with the UniBastard plugin from Rainbow, or if you are talking about splines then you could use D2 like you already have.

As for the vehicles i can't remember what the deal is, i am sure that fixer had his train going over bridges but not sure how he did it..

OK, thanks for all the help.

Where can I download Fixer's track? I'm quite curious.

1 important thing i did notice is that you got to set lighting to false on the animated object or i got loads of errors
