lol yeah gmail would be one heck of a online storage place to back things up at :P... just a shame that two or more gmail accounts is against the TOS :P

No one would notice atleast one extra account tough.. lol. Lots of people send a invite or two to themselves... :P

1 GB?! Damn send me one if you can/want :) So you can upload anything and what not? I've never heard of those things before. Is it like an email service like @aol.com or something?  I could use 1 gb lol
Title: Re: Gmail aka: google Mail
Post by: MotoX395 on September 04, 2004, 06:09:39 PM
You get one gigabyte of mail storage BUT you can not send 1 gig files tough... I think there is a restriction to 10 megabytes per file or so but I'm unsure to be honest...

also this is the best mail service you can get in the world, its made by Google so what else could it really be? AOL is crap... lol
Google doesn't really know when Gmail will be public aviable... I'm one of the lucky who had the right connections at the right point tough and have been using Gmail for almost a half year now. It's sweet and spam free and just the @gmail.com has a huge status not to say ;)

If one of you pm me your current mail add I will send you an invite, and then Scott can take the other one. :P

Post by: MotoX395 on September 04, 2004, 06:42:17 PM
sent ya an invite cr..

how you upload stuff...well the only way I can think off really would be mailing stuff to yourself or someone and it will end up either in your inbox or in your outbox.

I don't know what the size limit is tough. :P

Non the less it is one heck of a mail service and I can highley reccomend you getting this: http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/ . It will show in the tray if you get a new mail. really neat :)

Yes, I really dont want them!!!! Im being mean to my brother and not letting him have a gmail, so funny hes getting so mad at me because he has hotmail and they only let him have like awhole 2 MB, hehehehe. so just PM me if you want a gmail account that has 1000 MB aka: 1 GB. silly people at google call it 1000 MB when they can simply call it 1 GB. Jeez!!!

The gmail account is very good have one myself..

It must be stirring the **** around the other free email providers as hotmail has increased to 250mb storage,,and yahoo is now 100mb  i think they was something like 10mb each before.

The only thing is does make me think of ,is do u all rember few months back m/s talking about charging per email? hmmm

well who'd care... m$ can run their *#*#* into the ground for all I care. I don't use their things at all... in a month I will not even use windows hopefulley but the linux distro I wana use (mandrake) is being tricksy on me :-(...

hmm now I flew of topic..lol

microsoft and yahoo have both prety much declared mail-war on google with all this, yahoo offers another solution other then their free one but that one isn't for free. It have even been reported that gmail invites sent to yahoo, hotmail and other similair addreses have been sent to the spam folder. Thats just unfair play...hehe.

back on topic, anyone want a gmail invite? I've got one left here... lol, I've invited like 30 guys ever since I got gmail... but thats nothing compared to some who have invited about 500+ :P

I'd love to give you an invite pete. unless scott allready took care of that ;)

They have a system, they give some invites to a person to give out and the more he invites the more he gets.. Not allways but usualy. Some months ago google basically spamed out invites but then they kind of stoped totaly for a while. Now they are at it again tough. But yes the invites will be refilled after some time (short or long, it depends). :)

Why is there only 10 MB max attachment that you can send to other people???  :-\ , they should make it so you can send at least 20 MB or more or something. I cant send the sand art to some one  :'( :'( :'( :'(
Title: Re: Gmail aka: google Mail
Post by: MotoX395 on September 11, 2004, 05:57:22 PM
Why not just share the link? The reason is most likely that it could slow down the servers (even tough they have a gazillion of them in usage but they also have as may users :P) a lot.

Also I think people would use it as online storage for a lot of... well warez and *#*#*. :)

Well it is still the best free mail services in the world (actually one of the best even if you had to pay for it...the only ones that really beats it is having your own server :P).

http://s4.yousendit.com/ go there and send him the file you want to send through there. You can send up to 1 gigabyte big files with that. No sign up stuff or nothing... just go ahead and use.

Where from do you want to import the contacts, a mail service like yahoo, hotmail.. so on or a program like outlook, thunderbird? It has to be an csv file.

They aren't really aggressive at that at this point but if you make multiple accounts and they find out then you could expect a removal of all your accounts. As said though, they are not active on this point right now and for that matter how can they know?

GMail Helper

Pop Goes the GMail
Lets you access your GMail account with a POP3 mail client.

eMail2Pop
Interfaces with Gmail to provide POP3 and SMTP access to Gmail accounts.

GSuite
A simple, unified interface with all the tools to enhance your Gmail experience. Providing quick access to your account, easy search access, new mail notification, 'mailto:' handling and much more..

GNotify
Gmail utility that runs in your systray and notifies you when you have new Gmail.

GmailerXP
This program, still in development, will offer total control of your GMail account from any Windows computer.

GTray
Lives in your system tray and alerts you to pending GMails.

GCount
Lives on your Mac and alerts you to pending GMails.

OSX GmailStatus
Alerts OSX users to unread mail, makes access to GMail easier, and even lets GMail act as your default mail client.

GMail Notifier
For FireFox/Mozilla, adds an icon to your toolbar that keeps you updated on the number of GMails you have waiting.

G-Mailto
Rewrites any mailto link on a web page so that it sends using your GMail account and not your local mail client.

G-Mailto for Mac
Same as above, but works on computers with pretty apples on them.

Makes using GML .4 much easier on OSX.

gExodus
This application was designed to include some of the original features of GML but include a GUI. It only includes support for mBox files. I have since added a graphical interface to GML, and support more message store types, but this utility may be of use if GML doesn't work for you.

Mailbox Conversion

AddressBook to CSV 1.1
Converts OSX AddressBook format to CSV for GMail import.

PST Reader
Can convert PST files (from Microsoft Outlook) into mBox format.

juno5bdb

Fixes pesky mBox files created in Mozilla or Thunderbird, and good for double checking others as well. Included are both the source and the compiled version.

ReadPST
This application may be able to directly convert your Outlook PST files into mBox files GML can use. It's a command line utility, execute readpst.exe for instructions.

Outport
Exports data from Outlook to some useful formats for upload to GMail, and other uses.

DBXConv
Can convert DBX files (from Microsoft Outlook Express) into mBox format.

Programming Related

MINCUS - Mail::Webmail::Gmail

Mail Notifier & Address Importer
An open source .NET GMail API and a windows utility that provides notification and address book import.
