Title: MVA Track Map Bug Fixer
Post by: DirtTwister on January 20, 2006, 07:38:29 PM
I released a fix for the Track Map bug today.

http://dirttwister.com/mva/utilities/Setup_MVATrackMapFixer.zip

It appears there is a problem with it if you have a space in your track name.  The program uses some of the characters of your track name to make a new name for the Track map.  It appears that MVA doesn't like a space in the track map name.

I'll check it out tonight and post a fix (ver. 1.1).

When it fixes the track it creates a backup by appending a .bak to your track name.  So if your track was called mytrack.pak after the fixer runs you will have two files mytrack.pak and mytrack.pak.bak.

Anybody experiencing problem with it please post here.

Thanks,
Bruce

Update:  The link above now points to version 1.2.  It contains a fix that eliminates spaces in the new track map name and properly recognizes supercross tracks. Bruce

Thanks guys.  I've updated it so make sure you get version 1.1.   It now eliminates spaces in the track map name.  MVA won't load a track map with a space in the name.

just wonder if is possible put all tracks (nats and outdoor tracks) with a good setting of fog as the stock nationals have , the default fog setting in the editor is very high so i preview alot people pack their tracks with the default fog seting , this will do that the old pc´s cant run them because the lag problem , (any possiblility of the "map bug fixer" fix this in tracks with very high nº´s of fog ? )
One good thing is know what the stock tracks have as fog nº´s , is possible know that?

more info here:

maybe this is other topic but.....
and thx for this fix program so fast.

just wondering, if the creator applies it to the file does the person that dls it have to do it also?

The creator should use both tools (fog and track map).  The downloader doesn't have to.  If the downloader has bad files they can fix it themselves.

Heya Bruce ,
Just a simple newbish question for ya . I downloaded the newest version of the track map fixer , opened it and located my track i wanted to fix ,fixed it , it says its renamed at the end so if i was to open it again it says "already fixed "...now is that all ? Will the track map show up in game or is this a different fix ? I noticed it quite alot that you dont see the map when you generate a mini map in the editor , and on track you just see the green dots...are we all talking about the same problem and is this the temp fix for it ?
Any help would be appreciated  ;D

This doesn't have anything to do with people that do not see a mini-map when they click generate.  You have to have a spline before you click generate.  If you don't see the mini-map after using generate that is a different problem.

The program that I created fixes the problem where you have multiple tracks with working mini-maps.  All the tracks need to have this program run against it.  As soon as you have two or more tracks that do not have the fix the 2nd and greater tracks (alphabetically) will have the minimap of the first non-fixed track.

Not seeing a track map is a different problem.

I hope that explains it.

Right , i knew i saw posts on this problem but thought maybe this was the fix ,Yes i have a spline (and the whole track done for that matter) then i hit generate to get a mini map and stays grey . When in game all you see is the green dots following you (the AI) but i did download a sx the other day and it had a mini map in game so it made me think someone had a fix to this problem....thanks for the quick reply tho bud , How bout all this damn snow we just got  ;D

I only got about 4 inches.  Ticked me off that they pre-empted the SX on Sunday to cover the storm.

Sorry...off topic....but since you started discussing snow....

We got about 36 inches over the last 4 days where I live in Michigan.  And what ticked me off last Sunday is when Speed cut out in the middle of the 6 PM showing of the A3 SX Lites race during the LCQ to let a bunch of NASCAR announcers have a discussion.  You would think that they would have at least changed their schedule ahead of time rather than cut out in the middle of a broadcast like that.

Not sure what you're asking for, which picture and what do you want to do with trackname.pak.bak?

After doing whats this program should do, the track renames itslef to (trackname).pak.bak .      Should it be named likte that? Is it just to re-name it to (trackname).pak again or whO.ot?

I don't build tracks so I haven't used the map fixer, but from what i know of Bruce's work i would suggest that the file renamed xxx.pak.bak is a back-up of the original track in case there was a problem and you needed the original again. Rename it to xxx.pak and i think you will find it's your track before the map fix is applied.

I think i get it what he talking about "bruce". But can i delete the xxx.pak.bak. ? What I understand its just something random i can delete and just go and have fun with my Fixed map in the (trackname).pak     While the (trackname).pak.bak is trash.

Quick answer pleas :)

the *.bak is just a backup in case something goes wrong for some reason...

like what? :) If the tracks stop works? :O Kinda had that problem after that lol.

And if that way. you mean thats the ORIGINAL of the track,( the (trackname).pak.bak  ) ?

Quotelike what?  If the tracks stop works?

Yes, if after using the Map Fixer the xxx.pak works then xxx.pak.bak is trash, otherwise delete xxx.pak and rename xxx.pak.bak to xxx.pak and you have the original track back..

The program copies xxx.pak and renames it to xxx.pak.bak before fixing xxx.pak.

ok nice. TY alot . BTW when i reanamed the xxx.pak.bak to xxx.pak i couldnt se the track in game. But whatever!  I think when I fix the tracks with the map fixer, the xxx.pak will always work.

Make sure that you rename it so that the trackname is exactly the same as the old name otherwise that can cause some problems like track not appearing in the list.
