Thats actually what i was thinking when i saw that pic. Alex, you need to work on finding other ways to slow people down for your triples because for the most part of your tracks, they are good, but your triples are just way to steep and unrealistic compared to the rest of the track.

i took a drive down to terragen world yesterday and on my way see these loverly rolling hills in the distance and thought hmmmm im guna get myself a digger and make a track on that. so i got home and jumped into my helicopter and took a picture of this nice peice of land.
now ill spend a bit of time figuring out a cool little track for me and my mates to thrash around on in our spare time.

now i can start importing some fine loamy soil by the truck load and make a few piles where i think the sections could go.
im thinking fast GP style, big long rough and some tech jumping sections to scare the kids on there ickle fiddys hehehe.

Looks like a pretty nice track layout, definitely more gp style.
I'm making a freeride that has everything. Some FMX ramps, tons of natural hits, figure 8 ;D, little sand tracks, SX practice track, lake jump, river jump, mountain roads, TONS of trails, bridges, bumps, you name it, everything! 8)

Thats pretty cool burn. I really like that style of terrain. I've been meaning to make something like that but i find it so hard to get past the track path stage.
I noticed your berms and inner berms aren't looking so good. Try and remake them, and make sure to gaussian blur them heaps, it looks like a track worthy of some well groomed berms. Is the track wfo? I hope not. Not that you should care if your a wfo lover, but seriously, wfo tracks are extremely easy to make, and boring, and you can't argue with that really. I know how hard it is to make a track that rides at realistic speeds, but if you could slow it down, im sure a lot of people would have a whole new respect for your nat making skills.
38, track looks good. I like your style of tracks, but what I want to see is some not-so-perfect jumps. Motion blur the sides of the jumps a bit more, then go back over them with a brush to roughen them up, and take out the 'perfectness' to them, just slightly. Maybe add a few ruts too.
Berms are best done with gradients ;D

Yea it is definatly not a wfo track, but there are some faster sections, but this is only cos I want you to slam on your brakes when it gets tight again.
It's a pretty slow track overal, and makes you really think about braking and such.
What way would you make the berms tho? Because I still want those inside berms to make you slow down a lot.

Hey SKy im really digging your berms. Make it hard. make people whine and bitch.
out of everything you can make on a mcm track, berms have the most methods to make them. Different strokes for different folks i guess.
But here's a quick way how I do them.
Make a gradient shaped like a jump. (this will be the sliced profile of your berm.) But make sure to leave alot of black (or 0% opacity if you like transparent gradients) on the ends of the gradient. So have the grey part of the gradient atleast between 30% and 70% on the slider positions.
Then set the gradient type to 'radial' and drag out your gradient. You'll get a feel of how big to make it. Then (for a 180 degree berm) cut the "circle" in half. Ctrl+click on the layer to select the berm, and hit ctrl+t to freetransform, and make sure the piviot point is still where the center of the circle would be. Cancel your free transform, and go to filter/blur/radial blur. Radial blur it about 10 pixels, then 5 pixels, then 3, then 1. You should now have ends of the berm that flow up from the ground and back into it seemlessly. Oh yea, put the layer on screen (or not if you did the transparent way).
edit: add a black to white to black gradient overtop of the berm, and adjust to opacity down to get the center of the berm a little peak to it.

tip: save your berms as a brush, so with one click, you got a new berm :)
Do the same thing for a 90 degree berm, except cut out 75% of the radial gradient.
It all sounds confusing, but try it.

well heres a map ive been working on since about this time last year, it dont look much still but i spend more time riding it than i do adding new stuff lol.
its a very very larg mega lined quarry (when finnished) loads of FMX ramps and natural hits. veriuse trails to be added pleanty of line choice, you can run round and round one line and then branch off to another section blah blah. im guna get my ass in gear and add some new sections over the next few week/months lol.

Jay, looks good. Some of the transitions look to fast and steep, but that doesnt always effect the ride though. Maybe give the sides of the jumps a little more overspill.

I have to agree with simon here. Most FMX tracks now days are really repetitive. Ramp, ramp, ramp, little dirt hit, ramp. I would really like to see stuff out of an old fmx movie. Like some of the locations in Steel Roots, or Crusty or something. Lots of elevation, big air, and beautiful terrain. :)

everyone has thir own opinons. some like racing, and some like FMX (like myself) I enjoy fmx more because of the riders pushing the limits. you dont ever see a 360 in a race. all you really see is a nac or a whip. really it depends on what u like personally. Racers wont like fmx tracks and visa versa ...
oh yeah, pushing the limits but hittin a 70ft jump (same lenght every time! no ruts no kickers)
they learn there tricks in foam pits, and sure is pretty cool that they can land them on dirt, but give me a $10,000 foam pit i no i could pull some sick tricks off after a while of practice... and then going to dirt, thats not really skill, just crazyness and repatition!
now pushing the limits is 5th gear pinned down a rutted out straight, while side by side a 250lbs crf450... then hit a rutted out kicker lip thats 100 plus ft..... everylap the track is different, so everytime you hit it, its like the 1st time.......
now tell me thats not pushing the limits
*not saying fmxers dont have skill.... all the posers like it, and i think its lame......

The jumps and berms look so sharp and un-natural. Also, either the track is really, really wide or just really low, hard to tell but from distance like in the image it doesn't look to good. Looks like fun though. :)

Since desert doesn't mean "no grass" nothing says that those textures aren't looking desert'ish. As long as you don't put the track in a huge forest everything will be all good pretty much.

OK.. ummm... I changed some stuff on the disp remade a buncha sections and the triples... put some ruts in the woops and took some ruts off some other sections and centered the track better so it wouldnt run off the edge.. Also redid the smudge on the side of the jumps to tone it done... ALOT hahah

ok this is an older picture but was the latest update of this track and i dont think that many people have seen it. it is going to be hi-definition if all goes well. this picture is rather ragged on the sand section because i was having problems with photoshop and greyscale settings and i think my vid card. i have yet to finish a track on this raedon. all my tracks were created with nvidia and i think nvidia cards have better grayscale blurring control. anyway blah blah blah.

Cr, i like the look of that, but thats about all i like about it. I think you spend to much time on the looks and not enough time on originality and something else which i dont know what to call it. Like umm, not enough jumps, rythem sections and difficulty sections to slow you down and make the track interesting sort of thing.

definitely going to do animated water. two_four im not extremely worried about the outsides of the stadium since you wont be seeing that anyway when you ride the track. my main goal is to have the track ride and feel the best that it can. and if it looks good from the track thats fine by me. i just meant ill probably change the whole construction of the stadium from the inside out...looks kindof lego right now or something.

those shadows right there are pov-ray yes. they are quick for doing test shadows...render takes like 10 seconds or so. i usually use max for final renders though.

they use a 1 px brush or what i did was just make my track High Def. and use a 3px brush nd make them but my grid size was 1.6
i make 2-3 diffrent layers whit routs 1px ..1st later is all black .. 2nd layer alittle offest to 1st grey color ..3rd layer is white move this one allittle too..
i use ocopacety 10-17 if i can remember right..
I use a one pixel pencil instead of brush. Then I gaussian blur it at 0.3.
I use the airbrush on one pixel on-top of a new layer with pure black. Then I mess with the opacity. I do it a second time, but with white. I also have the pressure on a low opacity as well. I think about 12% or so.
This is is what I have so far.I did almost everything all over than what I had, beacuse I didn't like
the how the layout was. I am making a practice track that me, and my friends are building/ this is
like the dream version of it. Yes thats why the dis is "flat". I made 4 textures, and this one was the
best one I made so far. I cant get it perfect enough. I am finished with the dis, and thats about it.

Heck yess 51 that track looks killer.
i just wanted to point out that using a one pixel brush is gonna take you along time if you want it to look realistic...try either using various scatter brushes or make a custom brush. doing these two things seem to come out more organic...basically better than just using a one pixel brush.

the big dragonback is the staircase jump.. its 2 doubles.. it rides mint ingame.. the other dragonback is a stepdown.. its usally smooth but by the end of the day thats how it is.. im going to do 2 versions on this track.. Practice and Race. Practice will be how the track is when practice before the race is, when the track is smooth but slick.. maybe a little muddy.. race will be when the track is fully rutted nd beat up.. nd this track in real life gets really rought b/c its mostly sand nd soft dirt so it gets big breaking bumps..i got a few more plans for this track..traction map, ruts, objects, animated flags, flaggers. alotta stuff people never seen... heres a litte update.. berms added.. disp 65% done.. needs bumps nd little things to make it ride good.. should have a beta up soon hopfully

I like the looks of that track. I also like how your doing some unique, and original (at least to me) sections in there. Hard to believe, we've been playing custom tracks for so long now, but every once in a while you get a track with a few new things, and it really helps to freshen the experience up.
That track looks very nice KX, something worthy of Rainbow, the lighting in the car park section looks specially nice. As for the crowds, heres something we learned from the MXU tracks (you have probably seen this already but), to add people to the stadiums use 1 sided billboards (ie a 4 vertex/2 triangle rectangle) with a texture of people sitting in seats using transparency, then place them through your stadium. This gives a real 3D look to the crowd but will probably be a lot of work depending on how full you want the stadium.

Yea I was telling someone the I can afford to make the crowd a seperate object, as far as pollys go, and poke them through like you said. I think AUS_Twisted and maybe some others have done that with their stadiums. That stadium is next to nothing in pollys. There are about 1600 bales on the track (yup d2 handled it), but my testers say they don't notice any lag.
hey dub, those shadows look way dark. Maybe do something about that.
IF I do make a crowd, can a single mesh be animated? If you've seen mx vs atv, then you see how the crowd is animated. Its simple, but it makes it look way better.
Sure a single mesh can be animated, but i haven't seen MX v ATV in action yet, at least not long enough to notice any animation, so i'm not sure what animation you are going for. Since it's only a 2D board you're probably imited to up/down and forward/back anything else might look a bit unreal.

Nah, didn't even draw this up, I went old-skool with it, All paintbrush and blur. Except the surface bit, those ripples are just a nice pattern to give the off-track some shape..

That track looks sick, lotta fun lines there for sure. I'm not to keen on the textures tho, it's just the colour is a little dark and dreary..
I don't think theres a need to make the stadium smaller, it doesnt really look right now bacause theres no perimeter texture or objects. I dont really like the look of a stadium pushed right up against the track the whole way around.
BTW, although you cant really see them the texture maps for the stadium were done by Messiah (John), and the people were made by Corpse (Dan), ill probably end up making my own for a release version.

Looking cool Mic. Only thing I can somewhat pick on is the size of that barrel and tractor tire compared to the bike/rider...looks like he's riding in the land of the giants! Also that tree...well...it looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie! But the track...that looks awesome! Love the corrugated metal building too!
Somebody should make an SX in a building like that...entirely in a building like that. There are plenty of indoor SX practice tracks around the U.S. and Team Tuff Racing/Storm Lake Honda has a practice SX in a corrugated metal building. Cody Gilmore practiced on it before the opening of the AX season last year.
As you know Im a big smooth air 1 fan, so I'm excited to see this one. ;D
Yeh i never really noticed the barrels and boxes were that big untill took the ss, ill have to resize them.
I tried to keep the trees as low poly as possible, but now i think i should set the bar a little higher :p

This is a new style for me... not to good with the curve editior and *#*#*... oh well, what ya think of it sofar? It's gonna be a high def track on 2.0 grid... :)
berms look funky
For an easy fix with the berms, Make the burn tool the diameter of the berm, Hardness at 0%, and opacity at about 30-40%, and click once or twice.
That should give you a much more rounded bowl for the berm.
Thats a good one, never tought of that... I usually have more 'boweled' berms, but was trying something new to see if ya all liked it, guess not :P Hehe

Hey M/M! Looks cool...but I see one light pole that isn't casting any light? A few things to remember...I know you have a light for the overall scene that we aren't seeing here...but it's causing shadows to be thrown from poles that shouldn't be throwing them. I would delete that light and either use a Skylight (if you have Brazil or VRay) or just raise the ambient color until you don't need it. Also the color of those lights is...well...too yellow. I would recommend staying 255, 255, 190 (or above). Otherwise it looks like you've got frosted yellow bulbs out there...and would look very un-realistic if you had also rendered textures on this scene.
If you are only looking for a cool looking render...then add some volume fog and play around with that and you should be able to get the light beams from the sources. Just a few TIPS. Looks pretty cool though. I placed all the lights first in MCM2 and then used the info from the SLT to line up the actual lights in Max for the render of the textures. It came out ok I think. It's a bit fast for an SX overall...but there is a certain flow to be had. It's got to be at least 3 or 4 years old though. ::)

Ontrack textures are nice, maybe the dirt colour is a little light to be realistic looking tho.
And get rid of the bumps on the offtrack it looks like curdled milk.

but i released the track on fmtx cuz it was just something i wanted to try out..
but the real problem is that so many have thire monitor sett way to dark
Maybe check it out and see if it is too light. 8) Inside the game it looks darker than the screen shot does. And the technique was pretty easy to do, no lights were involved.

Looks alright, but smooth your berms. Yours are always jagged like that, all you need to do is blur them a little, so the tops are rounded and there is more to the back of them. Please :)
