Title: Joystick Pots
Post by: VRT_JPRLisbon_ on November 26, 2005, 02:19:03 AM
Some if not all joysticks use "potenciometres or potentiometres" (i dont know this word in inglish) and after some hours the "pots" start do some errors and with some more hours they stop work ( joys with "pots" stop turn left or right or ...... ) , its out there some joysticks that dont use "potenciometres or potentiometres" to work and use some other sistem like a magnetic sistem or other sistem that is more strong and dont start do errors after some hours ?

...or some tip to they work more time ,
or maybe place (online) where we can buy some (alot lol) "pots" and just replace them when we need ...

I've always used optical joysticks they don't really wear out like you described but after a lot of use they start to feel a little loose  (wear- on moving parts) and buttons will get sticky or stop working. Takes years though.

I always used  a M/S Ssidewinder Precision 2 or a Force Feedback 2 but these aren't in production anymore and if you can find a new or good one it will probably cost more than they did when they were in stores. I picked up a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro - just wanting to try it and found I like this stick more for MCM2 as it seems more precise and the brake button is much easier to get to- now I actually use it more since it's so handy. I picked up mine from "Just Deals" for $11.00 inc. shipping on an Ebay auction- they're  about $30-$40 Retail. I've been using this stick for almost 2 years and it still works great -no slop and all the buttons feel and work great.
