As you know there are perimeter tiles all around the track tile, since there can only be one shadow map for the perimeter i had to choose 1 tile to use to generate the shadows, so if there are no trees or objects on the tile that D2 uses to generate shadows then no shadows will be visible in the shadow map. The perimeter tile used is (you might have to check this since it's been a long time since i worked on it) the top right hand square on the clickable tile map at the top right hand side of the objects tab.

can you not do 2 seperate shadow maps?   im guessing your on about your double map sx?  just load your main "track" disp generate your shadows and then load the perimeter "disp" where the main tile should be and re-generate shadows  then marry them up in PS     would that work?

oooops i should slow down and read ....... slower lol.

ok, its a long shot but cant you do what i said but with object shadows?  i know it means placing them then removing and placing again for the perimeter but its posible.

also cant you just render the object shadows using max using the object scripter on a 513 x 257  and cut it in half ? ?

I just tried it out and if you place the objects in the top right perimeter tile you get the shadows generated on my machine. If you're getting the shadows on the track tile then the shadow render engine is working on your machine, so i can't work out what's going wrong. When you say 'you tried that' what exactly did you try, and are you sure you clicked on the top-right button on the objects tab before you placed the trees and the objects for shadow rendering. If not like Dodgy said you will need to move them to that tile for the shadowing to work.

I need to put an option in to D2 so you can select the perimeter tile that it uses for the shadows, but until i do you will have to make a copy of the track to use just for shadowing so you can move the trees and objects like Dodgy suggested if that is the problem.

Maybe you can let me have a copy of the track so i can check it here to see what's going on. Don't email it to me, maybe upload it somewhere and PM me with the address, if you want to try that route.
