Alright i got the whole tree shadows down and now i got another problem......im doing shadows for AheadBMX_6 on his new national and if you havent ridden one of his tracks they have braking bumps and they are tiny......well i cant get those little bump to show up very well on the renders from 3-d max.....if someone could help me on maybe getting these little bumps to show up better that would be great.

make those braking bump shadows by hand then...
what might also work is changing the sun angle.

Kaz is exactly right...when I've got small braking bumps that I need to get to show up, I change the sun angle to a lower vantage point and it usually takes care of things very well. Try setting the angle to 25 degrees (or as low as 20 degrees). It may also be necessary to change the position of the sun. I've found that settings of 120 (instead of the stock 90) and 25 (instead of the stock 45) seem to work nicely. You'll of course want to render a sky cube that matches that. If you're rendering that in TERRAGEN then the numbers for 120 and 25 in MCM2 are 30 and 25 (angle is the same it's just the sun position or direction that is 90 degrees off).

If you need (or would like) a sky cube just contact me and I'll hook you up. The stuff I would need to produce a cube that perfectly compliments the track is-

1) a pic of the ontrack and offtrack textures (from overhead...a render would be fine)
2) time of day
3) part of the world/country/town etc....
4) type of vegitation being used

I have the resources at my disposal (as does anyone who cares to do the homework) to download actual Digital Images of terrains from all over the world to use for the terrain in the sky cube that makes up the skyline. Also using the time of day and place, I can get the ACTUAL position of the sun and cloudiness on any given day from Yahoo Weather. The result is a sky that REALLY helps to sync up the environment and make the track look just like you think it should.

I'm happy to share this information with anyone who wants to know it. Just add me to MSN and give me a shout musicad01@hotmail.com

;)

you can also make a separate render higher resolution displacement import (make the map bigger for this render) with the light and target really really really close to the bumps ...im talking basically you just render the bumps. its a bit time consuming and a hair more difficult to get setup right but it works out as ive tested it a few times.
