Title: Very interesting....
Post by: VRT_Moto on August 28, 2005, 10:08:10 PM
Might be of some help to the Guru's here at TD.

Entire Quake 3 source code released
Id Software has released the Quake 3 source to the public. Right now, Id's FTP server is getting hammered so if you want to download it you can try getting it from TechPowerUp!'s mirror or FileFront (5.45 MB download)

Id software has a history of releasing their game engines to the public and hopefully will continue to do this in the future. It gives programmers and dedicated enthusiasts the chance of creating a game using a professional grade base of code to work off of.

There is already a slew of games that use the Quake 3 Engine, such as Jedi Knight 2, Jedi Knight Academy, MOHAA, and more!  All of those games are awesome   :D

Awesome games indeed... I was thinking more along the lines of a new MX environment. I'm sure a new game would be out of the question, but a new engine those code is already released, such as Quake 3's... might bring on some potential.  ;D

:-\ .... interesting thought...  :-\ but how do you apply it to a game that wasnt designed for or capable of using it unless of course you make a whole new game that is? ::)(http://www.geocities.com/in_da_mud/Drift3ed3b.jpg)

It's definitely possible to do something with the Quake 3 engine.

Unreal Tournaments' engine has always been available and they support an excellent scripting capability.  The problem with both is the amount of time that it takes to do anything.
