Title: Need a displacement map extracted from an .ENV file.
Post by: 4130BMX on August 19, 2005, 11:58:52 PM
Hey,  not sure if any of you guys remember me, but I was an avid player back in the 2001/2002 days of MCM2,  and I've recently been getting back into it.  My big problem is that I started a track, and had it almost done except for textures.  I made an ENV beta of the track with a stock green base texture on the entire thing, and my harddrive crashed.  Lucky for me I had sent the beta to a friend and he was able to send it back to me, but I have no way of getting the original disp. map back.   I heard that you guys here at TD can somehow extract the displacement map from a .ENV file, and I was hoping you would do me the favor of helping me out with that.

If so,  I'd rather have someone Private Message me to get the .ENV rather than posting a link for anyone to download it,  since it isnt complete yet.

Anyone that can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again,

BMX.

Yeah I got mine also.

Mine seem a bit odd,  Like the disp is blurred or something, because I can't get it to flow like it used to and its really really making me mad.

You having the same problem?

That can happen if you use the smooth option in Dillo.  You'll be blurring it twice if you do.  I normally use it, but I don't normally re-use the dispmap.

It's not possible to unsmooth it.  You might be able to compensate by sharpening it or slightly increasing it's strength.

Oh, okay.  So the disp map is already smoothened from the first time I made the track, and this re-use of the disp makes it smoothed again?

ALso, did you get my email about the strength/grid size, and wether or not you can find out what settings I used from the env?

EDIT

Wow, that totally worked,  no smoothing and the settings I thought I used and its perfect again.

Thanks alot!
